Krabi

This vacation keeps getting better and better. Sunday morning we arrived in Krabi around 6:00am. After checking into our hostel we had a nice breakfast and had a chance to catch up with Kimberly and Tara, two girls from our program that we met up with in Krabi. Then we rented motorbikes for the day and drove to a beautiful beach in Ao Nang. Our 18km drive to the beach ended up taking about an hour and a half because we were unexpectedly met with a huge Songkran celebration. Almost every truck we passed soaked us with water thrown from people siting in the truck bed. When we got into heavier traffic, we were continuously stopped by Thais who stood in the road and wiped white (and many other colored) paste on our faces. We enjoyed only about an hour at the beach but it was still plenty of time to get some good color. One part of the beach was pretty crowded but we were able to walk to a nearby island by wading through the water to a more secluded island. We were even asked to pose with some Thais in several pictures. Thais do not wear bathing suits, even when at the beach, so we were a little out of place in our bathing suits when almost everyone else was swimming in jeans and shirts.

Sunday morning we had an early breakfast before heading to the Tiger Cave. Here we were able to climb 1,237 steps to the top where there was a large Buddha statue and an amazing view of the countryside and the Andaman Sea. We spent the rest of the day exploring Krabi and relaxing.
