Koh Phi Phi

Tuesday morning we took a 9 o'clock ferry to Koh Phi Phi, an island about 2 hours west of Krabi by ferry. Koh Phi Phi is very very touristy, a small island with a small town in which everything there has been established for foreigners. Despite this, its a beautiful island with lots of fun things to do. We arrived before lunch, and checked into our hotel. We bought sandwiches and fruit smoothies and enjoyed lunch on the beach. We spent the rest of the afternoon laying on the beach enjoying the amazing views and swimming in bright aqua water.

Wednesday morning Tammy and I woke up early to head out for a day of scuba diving. We woke up to a rainy day, however, the rain had let up by the time we had boarded the boat. We drove to another island a short distance away where we did our first dive. Since we aren't certified, we only dove to about 10 meters maximum, but even so we saw dozens of beautiful different species of colorful fish. In addition, we also saw two Leopard sharks and two sea turtles! Surprisingly I wasn't nervous when we saw the sharks, they were about 5 feet long and very calm. We followed the sea turtle around for a minute or so. I've gone scuba diving one other time in Cancun, Mexico and although we saw plenty of fish we didn't see any sharks or turtles so I was extra excited. We came up and had lunch on the boat anchored in a beautiful bay. Tammy and I did some snorkeling as well during our lunch break and swam over to a secluded beach in the bay. We were the only two on the beach. We attempted a second dive in the afternoon, but unfortunately my ears wouldn't equalize and the pressure was causing me a lot of pain, so I couldn't carry on with the second dive. I came up after trying to go down several times and waited for the group back on the boat. Overall it was an amazing scuba experience. It's a totally different world down there and everything is amazing to see. Breathing underneath the water is surprisingly calming once you're used tto it.

After returning from our dive we said goodbye to Koh Phi Phi and took a ferry to Phuket. From there we took a bus to Khao Lak, where we will be staying for the rest of our vacation.
