Nichuta

Nichuta is the small village where Brijlal is from. The drive there was through the flat countryside with lots of farms and tiny villages. The homes in his village are made of clay and cow dung with straw roofs. Brij's house is one of the nicer homes in the village and is constructed with cement and has plumbing and electricity. Our time in the village was quite amazing. We got to spend time with his family, who welcomed us into their home with huge grins and made us feel like a member of the family even though we couldn't communicate with them. We visited the school where the Literacy For Nepal library is located and Chris, Lizzie and I even got to teach a lesson in two different classes. All the students were so enthusiastic about learning and loved to show off their English to us. We walked around the village and attracted a large group of children that followed us laughing and eager to touch our hands. For dinner we ate homemade meals with our hands, Animesh was a great teacher explaining the technique. We had duck eggs and carp caught at a nearby pond. The people living in the village seem so happy and the sense of community there is amazing.
